The NIH has a Feb. 19 deadline for replies to a request for suggested priority areas in the social sciences and behavioral research. Given that the current NIH funding stream for health literacy has concluded on Jan. 26, I would suggest this is one opportunity to impress upon NIH the importance of continuing the funding for health literacy research and interventions.
In their words … “the NIH Basic Behavioral and Social Science Opportunity Network (OppNet) is seeking input from the scientific community, health professionals, patient advocates, and the general public about current and emerging priorities in basic behavioral and social sciences research
(b-BSSR) that offer the greatest potential for improving the Nation¹s health and well-being. This input will inform the OppNet strategic planning process and help OppNet meet its mission of pursuing opportunities for strengthening b-BSSR at the NIH while innovating beyond existing investments.”
