“Healthy People provides science-based, 10-year national objectives for promoting health and preventing disease. One of the new topic areas of the recently-announced Healthy People 2020 is preparedness, with a goal of improving the Nation’s ability to prevent, prepare for, respond to, and recover from a major health incident. These objectives are based on a set of national priorities articulated in the National Health Security Strategy of the United States of America.
