EthnoMed — a Web Site Containing Information About Cultural Beliefs, Medical Issues and More

…as seen on the BHIC blog this morning.

Resources for Ramadan

The EthnoMed site http://ethnomed.org/ contains information about cultural beliefs, medical issues and other related issues pertinent to the health care of recent immigrants to Seattle or the US, many of whom are refugees fleeing war-torn parts of the world. They have included resources for Ramadan on their homepage this month:      RAMADAN begins August 21, 2009 – September 19, 2009.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the year in the Islamic calendar. A fast, held from sunrise to sunset, is carried out during this period. Abstention from food and drink may bring problems for Muslim patients who wish to fast.
