The following was posted on the HealthLiteracy Listserv by Cynthia Baur, Ph.D.; Senior Advisor, Health Literacy; Office of the Associate Director for Communication; Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

“I want to alert the listserv to a new Institute of Medicine report submitted to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for Healthy People 2020. The report includes healthy literacy as part of proposed Leading Health Indicators for the nation. The IOM panel identified 12 indicators and 24 Healthy People 2020 objectives. Health literacy is one of the 24 objectives selected to support the Indicators. HHS will now review the report. You can find the report at this link:  http://www.nap.edu/catalog.php?record_id=13088
