The following was posted on the HealthLiteracy Listserv.
“Hi all,
Dr. Howard Koh, 14th Assistant Secretary for Health at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, will be in Columbia, Mo., on September 13 to talk about the importance of health literacy in meeting the requirements of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
His keynote address will be part of the 2nd annual Missouri Health Literacy Summit, hosted by Health Literacy Missouri. With this year’s theme of “Health Literacy Tools for Building a Patient-Centered Health Home,” the summit will address a key part of the law that
focuses on developing a coordinated, patient-centered delivery model as a way to reduce fragmentation in the health care system and better engage patients in their care. We would like to invite anyone on the NIFL list to attend for CE credit.
Health Literacy Missouri also will provide live stream web video of Koh’s speech online to a national audience using Livestream Procaster. Online viewers will be able to post comments on Livestream’s discussion board during the talk. Health Literacy Missouri staff will monitor and participate in the discussion. We hope you’ll join us. Hello,
I am the Community Relations Manager of Children’s Mercy Family Health Partners. We are a Medicaid managed care health plan owned by Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics in Kansas City. We are a not-for-profit safety net health plan whose goal is to help make our members healthy.
In order to do that, we have created two video channels on YouTube with health education videos targeting those with low health literacy. The channels are available at http://www.youtube.com/cmfhp1 and http://www.youtube.com/cmfhpspanish (Spanish language channel).
I would like to invite you to use any one of our videos on your blog. The videos contain information on pregnancy, asthma, diabetes, weight management, lead poisoning prevention, health care provider education, dental and more. We will soon have more videos and a podcast coming out on autism as well.
Thank you and please let me know if you have any questions or concerns!
